About Plastic Surgery
Strange as it may seem, but a plastic operation - i.e., the elimination of certain defects in a surgical way - helps to solve psychological and social rather than aesthetic problems.
The development of modern society is based on certain social patterns analyzed by the sociology. Social mosaic includes such factors as production relations of the productive power. Rapid development of science and technologies ensured less risky and more effective surgical operations. On the other hand, the society has its own rules: different social changes are constantly forming a model of strong and successful personality, where the appearance and image of a person is also of great importance.
Everything has changed: the duration of lifetime, the quality of life, as well as beauty standards - nowadays it is fashionable to be young, healthy and attractive. Obviously, the society is experiencing haerontophobia (fear of ageing).
First wrinkles may induce convulsive reflections, thus for the most people the term "nice ageing" is related to the necessity of having a plastic operation done. The main idea of almost every commercial clip is an effective beautiful lady saying that exactly she is "worth it" and that is why "everyone admires her". In the society where a success in life in most cases is determined by the external attractiveness, it is rather difficult to resist general opinion. Living in a big city one can hardly dissociate from the society and feel independent, which means that, though indirectly, we are to follow its standards.
But if someone feels young, strong in health and spirit, why must they have an elderly appearance if they feel as a twenty-year-old person inside? Firm resolution to match the appearance with the state of mind can make a really positive effect on a person in general. There are, however, opinions that this is not a serious problem and that the dissatisfaction about one's appearance is often related to certain stressful experience, not to the objective physical defects.
When someone decides to change their face or body that are usually blamed for all the misfortunes, they hope to change their whole life as well. Unfortunately, such person experiences even stringer disappointment. It is very important to remember that it is not the appearance that we must change first. First of all we should try to change something inside us, something in our relationship with the world around us.
A specialist of plastic surgery is often a good psychologist who is trying to find out the real reason of someone's dissatisfaction with themselves and, if necessary, to talk them out of the operation.
There may however be a different situation: there are people who are extremely harmonious personalities able to put up perfectly with their shortcomings even turning them into their merits.
Among such people there are those who are afraid of changing something in their appearance because of certain beliefs, because they are afraid of operation or simply because of their limited knowledge about the possibilities that plastic operations may provide. Sometimes this may be a really obvious defect - e.g. a large papiloma on an eyelid or a nevouse covering half of the face. Such defects may be easily eliminated, while a person's appearance would only benefit. However, sometimes such "specific marks" remain for the whole life due to passivity or simple ignorance.
Plastic operation is a serious science and delicate art that helps a person to adapt in the environment and feel happier. Plastic operation may help to eliminate such inborn defects as hare-lip, vascular nevouse, stuck up ears - defects that other people, especially little children do not tend to ignore. Sometimes such insults or just mockeries may turn the life of a person into a real hell.
Plastic - aesthetic surgery may also perform a reconstructive function, e.g. when a person is "collected of separate parts" after a serious accident and his or her appearance is given previous attractiveness.
Patients addressing a specialist of plastic surgery may be twenty as well as eighty years old. It is not the age that determines the necessity of operation; it is the state of one's appearance. Currently, there is a tendency to have a plastic operation done at younger age, e.g. in early 30s, when skin has not lost its elasticity yet, wrinkles are not too deep and regeneration is faster. In such cases one can expect much more effective results of operation.
In fact, results of the operation much depend on the qualifications and practical skills of a surgeon therefore it is very important to choose the right specialist. If you manage to choose the right doctor that you can completely trust, you may think that your operation has already been finished successfully.
Recommendations about how to choose the best surgeon are given in different medical publications as well as by surgeons themselves. All recommendations may be summed up in five principle groups:
● Try to find a surgeon and clinics with good reputation;
● Ask to show some photos with visible results of operations made for other patients;
● Find out the realistic evaluation by a surgeon about the possible expected results;
● Try to obtain a complete list of prices, including the costs of analyses, examinations, hospitalization, operation and anesthesia;
● Be sure that the surgeon you have chosen is nice and kind for you as a person and that you completely can trust him.
It is not worth to choose a surgeon according to popular advertisements. Surgeons themselves say that such advertising contradicts doctor's ethics. Besides, a good specialist never advertises - it is his patients who do this. Before you have finally decided to have a plastic operation done, you should consider possible adverse effects, too, and discuss them with your surgeon. No one ever can give a 100%- percent guarantee that the operation will be totally successful. Each body is individual and there may always be completely unexpected reactions to the surgical intervention, such as improper scar formation, risk of implant rejection, allergy to anesthesia, post-operation pains, prolonged regeneration, occurrence of haematomes and many others. No one wants to discourage you, just remember that your decision is firm and final, and that you accept all the responsibility for your agreement to be operated as well as for possible adverse effects or discomfort after operation. That is why you will be asked to sign an agreement specifying possible post-operation complications. This is a kind of contract between a patient and the clinics ensuring that no one of the parties will have any claims for each other. This contract will contain the information about possible "unsuccessful termination of the operation".
No one surgeon will take up "to make" a commonly beautiful "modern" face or its elements. It is not important if your nose is not beautiful as a separate face element; it is much more important if your proper nose matches all the other elements and features of your face. All your features should be harmonious and attractive. Let your face be corrected, embellished, but it still should be your own face. The principle corrections include plastics of face and neck, lifting of temples or lower part of face, when fallen cheeks are lifted and so the shape of the whole face is corrected. Blepharoplasty enables to change the shape of lower and upper eyelids or to remove pouches under the eyes. Rhynoplasty helps to change the shape of nose, otoplasty corrects stuck up ears. Plastic surgery may also increase the chin, bend of cheeks, remove a double chin or simply reduce it. Plastic operations enable us to change the shape of breasts and buttocks, remove fat from belly, arms and hips. As you can see, the list is really solid and promising.
